Magic Mouse Acceleration

I hate mouse acceleration. With a passion. The Magic Mouse has mouse acceleration turned on by default and there’s no way to turn it off in the mouse settings. But, thanks to the all-knowing Google, I found this thread.

Anyways, to turn off mouse acceleration, open up your Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and enter the following:

  # To turn off acceleration for your mouse
  defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1

  # To turn off acceleration for your trackpad
  defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.trackpad.scaling -1

Done! No more stupid mouse acceleration.

OMG! Thank you so much!

I got my Magic Mouse a few days ago and the accel was driving me crazy! I was almost considering it a bad investment...

Now it moves so smoothly, awesome!

How do you set them back to default? I hate my trackpad after applying this...

What an excellent fix. Coming from a windows background the acceleration was completely annoying so thanks!
